United recorded their first away victory under the Dutch boss, winning 2-1 after weathering an early onslaught from the Gunners, when goalkeeper David Da Gea saved one-on-one from Jack Wilshere. At the start of the second half, a bizarre own goal from defender Kieran Gibbs, who had clattered into goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, which forced him off with a hip problem, helped turned the momentum for United, with captain Wayne Rooney clipping home a late second on the break as Arsenal were exposed on the counter. “Because we were 1-0 down and we wanted to desperately come back, and we forgot our principles a little bit. “I have to see it (Rooney breakaway goal) again because I was surprised there wasn’t anyone there any more. “We were caught when we had a corner for us because sometimes the players forget the cautiousness because the emotional side of the game takes over.” Wenger added: “I wasn’t angry with the players – I have a lot of respect for the energy they put in the game and the spirit they show. “I am just angry because the players do not get rewarded and our fans do not get rewarded for the result that was just there for the taking.” There where signs of a growing discontent in some sections of the Emirates Stadium crowd. Manchester United substitute Darren Fletcher was involved in a heated exchange with fans behind the opposition bench following the opening goal, when it is understood a paper cup of coffee was thrown at the visitors as they celebrated the opening goal. A few Arsenal fans, meanwhile, held up A4-sized placards calling for Wenger’s dismissal, which were quickly confiscated by club stewards. Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta revealed the players were in shock as to just how they did not manage to get something out of the match. “We played our best game of the season, but it is about being ruthless for sure because when you are inside the box, and you cannot manage to score in that many situations, you cannot expect to win a football game,” he said. Arteta, though, insists Arsenal must not allow any hangovers from such a disappointing result as they prepare for Tuesday night’s Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund. “When you lose, there is something which is not going well, but we cannot forget (what we have done well) as that creates a lack of belief and confidence if you just take a lot of negatives at the end when you have lost the game. “We have been too inconsistent at home and dropped too many points already, but we have been saying that for weeks now and we need to turn that around.” Goalkeeper Szczesny was able to walk unaided out of the stadium, while Wilshere had an X-ray on his ankle, which was clear, but will be assessed once the swelling has gone down. Although Olivier Giroud, back from three months out with a broken foot, reduced the deficit with a 20-yard drive in stoppage-time, there was to be no grandstand finale to prevent Arsenal slipping to a second straight Premier League defeat. While the Gunners are down in eighth, United moved up to fourth place. Chris Smalling helped steer inexperienced defenders Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett through the match, and van Gaal believes United’s tactics were proved to be spot-on. “That is why I play this formation because now I have to play with two young defenders, yes, it was a risk, but I was sure that Arsenal wants to attack and to press us, then, you know that Arsenal is giving a lot of space away,” said Van Gaal. “And then (Per) Mertesacker and our friend (Nacho) Monreal has to defend. That is why I put (Angel) di Maria against Mertesacker and (Robin) van Persie against Monreal, that is why I changed for (James) Wilson, more pace. “That is what you are thinking in advance of a match and when it is ending like this, you can be happy.” Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, though, had complete opposite emotions after watching his side again fail to turn a largely promising performance into an end product. He said: “Our results are not there at the moment because we lack a bit of maturity defensively and we pay for it. Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal always felt Arsenal would eventually prove vulnerable at the back after his side completed a smash-and-grab raid at the Emirates Stadium. Press Association

ARCADIA, Calif. (March 6, 2015)–Although she was wide throughout, combacking Lost Bus was an impressive three quarters of a length winner of Friday’s $58,000 Dixie Pearl allowance feature as she covered six furlongs in 1:10.67 under Mike Smith.Trained by Blake Heap, Lost Bus had been idle since Aug. 27 at Del Mar. Breaking from the outside post in a field of 10 sophomore fillies, the 3-year-old California-bred daughter of Bring the Heat had two horses beat going to the three eighths pole, but was full of run while about eight-wide around the turn and into the stretch.“Given the trip she had, this race is a lot more impressive than the winning margin was,” said Smith. “I was really wide, really wide. I went into the turn wide and I stayed wide, I could never get in. It just worked out that Blake put me on a talented horse.Owned by John R. Haagsma, Lost Bus was the second choice in the wagering and paid $7.40, $5.20 and $3.60. A first-out maiden winner at Santa Anita on May 26, she notched her second win from her fourth start and with the winner’s cut of $34,800, increased her earnings to $105,400.“She’s been in Florida all winter,” said Heap. “After her last race at Del Mar, we took her to Kentucky for three weeks, we turned her out and just let her run around on grass…She was battling shins at Del Mar. She didn’t like that track…I think she’s going to be a mile on the grass type of horse, maybe a stakes horse.”Runner-up Easter Fever, who was a close second going into the far turn behind early pacesetter Grand Yodeler, took command three off the fence midway around the turn but was no match for the winner late, finishing 2 ¼ lengths in front of Alwazabridesmaid. Off at 13-1, Easter Fever paid $11.20 and $5.80.Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Alwaszabridesmaid saved ground while sixth at the quarter pole and ran gamely for third money, paying $4.40 to show.Jockey Martin Garcia, who broke from the number six post position aboard Sheer Pleasure, was unseated shortly after the break, but was uninjured. Sheer Pleasure, who stumbled badly leaving the gate, rallied extremely wide to go under the wire by about four lengths clear of the winner.Fractions on the race were 22.10, 45.17 and 57.71.Special first post time for an 11-race card on Saturday, Santa Anita Handicap Day, is at 12 noon. Admission gates will open at 10 a.m. –30–

Boeing one of the industry’s leaders in LED mood lighting for aircraft interiors is set to take the art to another level. Now in its sights are light projections onto ceiling, walls and bulkheads.A Boeing spokesperson told Runway Girl Network that “the ceiling projections might be scenes from nature, chosen to enhance mood or for their calming effect, so a sky with stars and constellations at night, or sunny blue skies during the day.See video below“Passenger information could be projected onto walls and bulkheads, while airlines might display information about a destination to inspire passengers for their onward journey,” the spokesman said.Motivation for the project has come from Boeing’s airline customers and their passengers says RGN. “Customers tell us they want to add the ‘wow’ factor to future cabins, as well as distinguishing their cabins from airlines flying the same airplane model. Passengers tell us that cabins feel more open and less constricted with these types of options installed,” says Boeing.Boeing’s impressive concept video shows dramatic possibilities, but the aircraft manufacturer emphasizes that these are early days. “We’re working with suppliers, testing the latest in projection technology to support these concepts. They’re being tested in physical mock-ups to determine the optimal position for projection and to lessen interference by passengers or crew.Boeing’s has had tremendous success with mood lighting on its 787 and Boeing 737 Sky Interior which transforms the cabin visually into a “much wider” space.
How farmers and their cyclops sheep led to a cancer treatment breakthroughHow farmers and their cyclops sheep led to a cancer treatment breakthrough
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Lessons of life are sometimes found in the strangest of places. That was the case for a group of Idaho ranchers in the 1950s that found a mysterious case of cyclops lambs among their sheep. That’s right — one-eyed mutant lambs were being born.An interesting video on the subject from the folks over at TED-Ed (the same group responsible for TED Talks) goes into further detail. It’s available below and I encourage you to take a moment to watch it.Long story short — the effort by the farmers to report their deformed lambs to scientists at the USDA led to a long line of discoveries that eventually resulted in the identification of a relationship between a plant compound — cyclopamine — and proteins instrumental in the biological development process. With the mystery of the cyclops sheep having been solved, scientists took the lessons learned and applied them to humans.Basal Cell Nevus Syndrome is a group of defects caused by a genetic condition. It just so happened that the protein relationships studied in the sheep mutations were also at the root of the Syndrome, which partially predisposes people to certain cancers.Though cyclopamine wasn’t the right compound to help people out, closely related molecules were the answer and new treatments have been made available in skin cancer medicines during the last five years as a result of the finding. The story hits close to home for me as I have wrestled with skin cancer (a different form than assisted by the treatments described above) at a relatively young age. How cool that the extra effort by farmers to keep their livestock healthy has helped people afflicted with something well beyond their control?Don’t underestimate a seemingly odd occurrence. Investigate it until you understand it, and who knows — maybe you’ll save some lives along the way. Also, if your livestock are being born with a mutation, be sure to get that checked out.
Video Editing Quick Tip: File & Folder OrganizationVideo Editing Quick Tip: File & Folder Organization
Create a main folder for every new project and then dump this folder structure into it. This simple list covers the broad file types that will be associated with most video editing projects (don’t forget the Documents folder, an important inclusion). The numerical prefixes help to keep the folders in order.Ultimately, the best folder structure is the one that works best for you. Once you find one that works for your needs, BE CONSISTENT.It’s easy to get lazy with file organization when you’re in a video editing session and under pressure – saving files to your Desktop with obscure file names. If you work this way, which is of course inadvisable, ALWAYS clean off your Desktop and Downloads folder at the end of the session day. Move the files into their appropriate organized folder and then go back and relink them in your video editing app. You’ll end up thanking yourself that you took the time.We want to know, what file and folder structure do you use for your video editing work? What tips can you share for being a more organized video editor? Please share in the comments below! 00_Projects01_MEDIA02_AUDIO03_GFX04_SFX05_MUSIC06_OUTPUTS07_DOCS Keep your sanity and work more efficiently. Use a dedicated file and folder organization system in your video editing.I recently stumbled across a Reddit post asking for help in ‘keeping files organized while editing’. It’s an important request.Organization is a common pain point among video editors. Maybe its that most editors are creative right-brained leaning types, and they inherently have trouble keeping their files efficiently organized. Add to that the fact that Editors are usually working under intense time constraints. It’s easy to get files misplaced, especially when media surfaces at different stages of the editing process.Good media management, file structure, versioning and a dedicated organization system is imperative to editing successfully. Files that are saved to the wrong location can go missing, costing you time trying to pinpoint them…or worse, they get deleted. For tips on file naming check out my previous post: File Naming for Video Editors, Designers and Photographers. In this post, we’re going to look at creating a video editing folder structure – having set places to store your files. Let’s jump in…Getting back to the Reddit post…some good suggestions were shared for folder naming and organzation and I wanted to share them here. One user suggested Post Haste, an application created by Digital Rebellion that we’ve mentioned on the blog before. Post Haste automates the process of setting up folders on your computer for different workflows (photography, video editing, design, etc). Run Post Haste at the start of a project and you’ll have all the folders you need for the project’s duration. It’s a free media management tool, so its definitely worth downloading it and testing it out in your workflow.Other Reddit users shared their own folder structures:Footage (with subfolders for specific shoot dates if necessary)Edits (put the timelines there)GraphicsAudioImagesThis particular structure is pretty standard for editing, but I’d imagine it’s best used to organize your media within your video editing application, not on your media drive. If you set this up at the start of every project it’ll be easier to organize your media as you bring it into the app through post production. If you’re looking for a folder structure for your hard drive, I liked this one:
