In Q2 2019, GDP increased at an annual rate of 2.1%, compared to Q1 2019’s rate of 3.1%. According to the Bureau, the increase in Real GDP reflected positive contributions from personal consumption expenditures (PCE), federal government spending, and state and local government spending. This was partly upset by negative contributions from private inventory investment, exports, nonresidential fixed investment and residential fixed investment.Q2 2019’s growth exceeded the National Association of Homebuilder’s (NAHB) forecast of 1.6%, reflecting the 21st consecutive quarter of growth. The NAHB notes that residential fixed investment (home building and remodeling) has been a drag on economic growth for six consecutive quarters, due to the housing affordability crisis. The Federal reserve will soon be meeting to discuss whether to slash interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade, and their decision may be based on the Bureau’s report. According to the New York Post, the Fed is expected to cut interest rates by one quarter of 1%, Wall Street economists expected growth of around 2% for Q2 2019. As Friday’s report exceeded expectations, the Post notes that the financial markets are going to have some “pretty nervous days” until the Fed makes its decision on July 31. The Fed has said it will only cut rates to boost a slowing economy. Bloomberg reports that Fed Chairman Jerome Powell is looking to ease interest rates by around a quarter of a percentage point at the July meeting. Earlier this year, Powell stated that though the economy remained strong, “crosscurrents, such as trade tensions and concerns about global growth, have been weighing on economic activity and the outlook.”Meanwhile, President Donald Trump recently signaled to the Fed that he believes now is the best time to cut interest rates.“Very inexpensive, in fact productive, to move now,” the President tweeted. “The Fed raised & tightened far too much & too fast.” Home / Daily Dose / GDP Exceeds Expectations Demand Propels Home Prices Upward 2 days ago GDP Exceeds Expectations Servicers Navigate the Post-Pandemic World 2 days ago Previous: The Week Ahead: Will the Fed Reduce Rates? Bulls’ Pau Gasol emotional in his first meeting against the LakersBulls’ Pau Gasol emotional in his first meeting against the Lakers

first_img“I would’ve tried to win a couple with Kwame Brown,” Bryant deadpanned.Brown was part of the Gasol deal. The Lakers also sent Memphis Aaron McKie, Javaris Crittenton, two first-round picks and the rights to Pau’s brother Marc, who the Lakers drafted with a second-round pick in 2007.Gasol scored a team-leading 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 13 rebounds against the Lakers. That presence became instrumental in the Lakers’ back-to-back title runs in 2009 and 2010. But Gasol experienced inconsistency his last three seasons with the Lakers amid fluctuating roles under Mike Brown and Mike D’Antoni, persistent trade rumors and numerous injuries. “Pau has been playing like Pau,” Bryant said. “There seems to be no (drop off) in his play. He’s healthy. He looks strong. He’s moving very well.”All of which left Bryant sentimental. “I told him even when I talked to him about trying to bring him back that I support him no matter what,” Bryant said. “Our relationship goes beyond basketball.”The next challengeMichael Jordan called Bryant shortly after Bryant surpassed him for third place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Jordan’s message?“‘Go get Karl (Malone),” Bryant said. “The competitor never stops. You’re thinking about the next challenge.”Bryant has 32,365 points, while Malone ranks second all-time with 36,928 career points. It seems unlikely Bryant would eclipse Malone unless the Lakers’ star extends his contract past the 2015-16 season. “It was more of a thankful feeling to Michael and the players that came before me,” Bryant said. “I learned so much from him. I don’t say that lightly. I literally stole (stuff) from him with spin moves and pull ups.”Early returnsThe NBA released the first returns for the 2015 All-Star ballot, which showed Bryant ranked second among the Western Conference backcourt with 521,542 votes. Bryant trails Golden State’s Stephen Curry (549,095), but has a comfortable lead over Houston’s James Harden (336,998). The NBA All-Star game takes place on Feb. 15, in New York City, while balloting ends on Jan. 19. Still, Gasol and Bryant reported meeting on Christmas Eve for what the Lakers’ star said entailed spending “several hours talking and reminiscing.” “It felt good to hang out and talk and spend quality time together. I really enjoyed it. Obviously I miss him,” Gasol said. “He’s like a brother to me. I wish him the best and have the utmost respect for who he is and I’m always going to support him.” They also had an emotional conversation this summer when Gasol informed Bryant he would leave the Lakers. “It was tough,” Bryant said. “He came here and that’s when things turned around. He’s a part of this franchise. It’s tough for him to go and leave what he helped build. It was tough for me to see him go.”After all, Bryant predicted a pretty ugly scenario had Gasol never played 6 1/2 seasons with the Lakers. Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorcenter_img CHICAGO >> The mixed feelings would have struck Pau Gasol harder had Kobe Bryant also stood on center court. But Gasol could not interact with Bryant during the Lakers’ 113-93 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday at United Center. Instead of marking their first matchup since Gasol left the Lakers this offseason through free agency, Bryant rested from general soreness for the second consecutive game. Gasol hugged Lakers forwards Jordan Hill and Wesley Johnson before tipoff. Gasol also hugged Bryant and other Lakers staff members after the game. Yet, those interactions hardly match the bond Gasol and Bryant forged through two NBA championship runs. “Having him on the floor would’ve been more emotional,” Gasol said. “I want him to be healthy and want him to be ready. He knows his body well and will do what’s best for his team and himself.”last_img read more
