Man City boss Guardiola: We must keep heat on Liverpoolby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester City boss Pep Guardiola has told Liverpool they’ll keep up the pressure as they target a third successive Premier league title.City earned a hard-fought 3-1 win away to Everton after league leaders Liverpool beat Sheffield United to keep up their 100% record.”We knew Liverpool won again and the gap was eight points, so big,” the City boss said.”So we won three points and it’s five in September, with a lot of points to play for.”We know which team we’re playing [in the title race] right now, they are seven victories in a row, champions of Europe and playing good football. “This is our rival and we know we can’t drop too many points because last season they lost just one game.”The season is long, we have to keep going and be there, maybe we can push them a little bit more and try to make the third Premier League in a row.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say
Sheffield Utd boss Wilder tells Henderson: You must improveby Paul Vegas25 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveSheffield United boss Chris Wilder has told Dean Henderson to cut out the mistakes if he wants to be an England star. The Blades goalkeeper was left distraught when his second-half blunder at Bramall Lane on Saturday gifted all three points to Liverpool.Wilder said: “He has the raw qualities. As you have seen here, he makes big saves, but he has to learn from experience and he has to grow.”This is a big season for him individually. It is up to him how he develops. He has got first-class coaching from our point of view.”He has got team-mates that think a lot about him and as a manager, I do as well. He is an outstanding young goalkeeper but a lot will be down to how he takes it on to the next level.”He has proved himself at every level. He has come back from mistakes. He made a huge one last year against Leeds and came back and contributed and he made a couple in a high profile Championship game against Aston Villa and came back.”So that is the reaction, but from my point of view I don’t want him to make mistakes and he can’t afford to make mistakes to drag himself out of a hole.”First and foremost, he has to cut that out, because as with all the top goalkeepers that play, mistakes are very few and far between.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say

Duke NBA Draft PicksThe NBA has been good to Duke’s men’s basketball program. Or maybe we should say: the Blue Devils have been good to the NBA. Since Mike Krzyzewski took over the program, Duke has produced 54 NBA Draft picks. That’s really, really impressive. With the 2015 NBA Draft taking place last week, and three former Dukies getting selected, the Blue Devils have released a cool “Duke in the NBA” video, celebrating Coach K’s draft picks.
Chelsea star Eden Hazard has labelled Lionel Messi the greatest footballer of all time, while admitting he did not enjoy his meetings with the Barcelona wizard in 2018.The Argentine, alongside current Juventus man Cristiano Ronaldo, has dominated the game over the last decade, breaking countless records with his club while also becoming the first man to win five Ballons d’Or.Messi or Ronaldo has been a constant source of contention amongst some football fans, with endless debates generated over the question of who is the best in the world. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? But for Hazard, only one man has a legitimate claim to that title.”Two G.O.A.T.s (Greatest of All Time) you say? No way. There is only one G.O.A.T: Him, Lionel Messi!” the Chelsea man explained to HLN.”Those two games against Barcelona were not my best memories of 2018. I was happy to play against Barcelona and Messi, but I didn’t deliver what I expected. I was disillusioned.”My three sons were there for the home match at Stamford Bridge. The eldest is a big Messi fan – all of us are Messi fans, actually. He wanted to see Messi that day, because Messi is a special player.”Hazard enjoyed a productive summer in 2018, helping Belgium reach the World Cup semi-finals before ultimately losing out to hosts France. One of the teams the Red Devils upset along the way was Brazil, who went down 2-1 in the quarters thanks largely to an inspired performance in goal from Thibaut Courtois. The much-questioned Neymar was comforted by Hazard at the final whistle, and he admits that he felt for Brazil’s icon after the match.“That was something that came naturally. I didn’t think about it when we crossed each other. I just put myself in his place,” he added. “Everyone expected him to become the best player of the World Cup. It had to be Neymar. Lionel Messi was out of the tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo as well. The pressure on his shoulders must have been immense.”I know the feeling. But tens of thousands of times bigger than in Belgium, when they expected a lot from me in 2014. The nation, the fans, the journalists. It was Neymar, Neymar, Neymar. It was all about Neymar, Neymar, Neymar.”It was exaggerated hysteria. Have we won? Then it’s thanks to Neymar. Have we lost? Then it’s Neymar’s fault. As if those 22 others in the Brazil squad didn’t even participate.”We did not speak – his English isn’t that good. It was all about the gesture, not about the words. In a difficult moment I wanted to make him feel respected. To comfort him. He is a top player. His moment will come. Maybe at the next World Cup.“ Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.
Roma branded the accusations made by Francesco Totti in a parting shot at the club “fanciful and far from reality”.Totti officially stepped down as a director of Roma on Monday, bringing an end to his 30-year stay in the Italian capital.Speaking at an explosive press conference to explain the reasons behind his exit , the former captain hit out at the Serie A side for not taking his views into consideration during his two-year stint in the position. “I never had the chance to express myself,” Totti told reporters. “They never involved me. The first year that can happen but by the second [year] I understood what they wanted to do. “They knew of my desire to offer a lot to this squad but they never wanted it. They kept me out of everything. It’s a day that I hoped never would have come.”Roma released a statement on their official website to respond to Totti’s claims, reiterating the 42-year-old chose to resign instead of taking up a new role as technical director – as revealed by American owner James Pallotta last week.”The club is extremely disappointed to learn that Francesco Totti has announced that he has decided to leave the club and not take up the position of technical director of Roma,” the statement read. “We offered this role to him after Monchi’s exit, for which we were awaiting his answer.”We believed that the role offered to Francesco is one of the most senior positions at the club and obviously requires total dedication and commitment, something that is expected of all senior managers within the club.”We were prepared to be patient with Francesco and help him achieve the transition from being a great footballer into a great manager. To demonstrate this commitment to Francesco, the role of technical director was offered to him – a role that we believed he could grow into and one in which we offered to support him in while he adapts.”While we understand how hard it must be for him to take this decision to leave AS Roma after 30 years, we believe that his perception of the facts and decisions made at the club are both fanciful and far from reality.”A month on from Daniele De Rossi announcing his exit, Totti also suggested Romans have been forced out of the Stadio Olimpico since Pallotta took over in 2011.And the one-club man made clear he would consider a return should there be a change of ownership further down the line. The club statement continued: “Regarding the repeated references to a possible comeback with a new ownership, combined with information about interested parties collected by him around the world, we hope that this was not meant to be an inappropriate anticipation of a takeover attempt of the club, a scenario that would be very sensitive as Roma is a listed company. “The club’s investor group have absolutely no intention of putting Roma up for sale, now or in the future. We wish Francesco only good luck with what he decides to do next.”
AC Milan chief football officer Zvonimir Boban believes goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma will remain with the Serie A giants.Donnarumma has been linked with a move away from San Siro, with Paris Saint-Germain among the club’s reportedly interested in the shot-stopper.The 20-year-old has not always had the best relationship with supporters, with the youngster having once been reduced to tears by a banner produced by the home support, who were upset with the talented goalkeeper over a contract dispute. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare But Boban has suggested the Italy international will be staying in Milan, although he accepted that the situation could change should the player decide he wants to leave.”[Paolo] Maldini said that we are happy to have probably the best goalkeeper in the world, surely the best talent in the world in that role,” Boban told CalcioMercato on Tuesday. “For the moment, he remains. He can change, but it is not said that he will leave.”Donnarumma joined Milan as a 14-year-old in 2013 and has already made 164 first-team appearances. He will be playing for a new manager this season in the form of Marco Giampaolo. The Switzerland-born 51-year-old signed a deal until 2021 with the option of an additional year as the replacement for Gennaro Gattuso, who departed at the end of last season . And Boban thinks the new boss was the right choice to lead the club back to the top of European football. “He is one of the few coaches that makes you clearly understand how he wants to play, in every situation,” he said. He continued: “Giampaolo will find the right path, with the players but also with the game.” Milan finished fifth in Serie A last season, falling heartbreakingly short of a top-four place by ended the campaign just a single point behind rivals Inter and Atalanta. They will be hoping to go one better in new season, while also looking to close the substantial gap on champions Juventus, who finished 22 points clear of them. Despite that fifth-place finish the club are facing a season without European play, having been banned from the Europa League following FFP violations.

(Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)Oklahoma is taking on West Virginia on Friday night with a trip to the Big 12 title game on the line. While the play on the field has been entertaining, there was a scary moment for a referee early in the action.Midway through the second quarter, West Virginia quarterback Will Grier was pushed out of bounds into a referee who was watching the sideline. Unfortunately, the referee wasn’t able to get up easily. When he finally did a few minutes later, it was revealed that he had a gash on the side of his face. His ear was also bleeding profusely. It’s unclear whether he stayed in the game, but he looked like he wanted to. In his individual list, CBS analyst Barton Simmons has Scott Frost all the way up at No. 7.He made his case on the outlet’s Cover 3 podcast, arguing that top programs would sooner hire an up-and-comer like Frost, who was the hottest coaching commodity after the 2017 season, than an established top coach like TCU’s Gary Patterson, who ranks No. 8 on the list.Via 247Sports:“If you are Texas, and you could hire Scott Frost or you could hire Gary Patterson, is it a no-brainer you’d hire Gary Patterson?” Simmons asked.[…]‘If you are Oklahoma, and you could hire Scott Frost or Mark Dantonio?” Simmons asked again.[…]“I just think that Scott Frost, if you look at the trajectory, you look at what he inherited at Nebraska, how the team looked at the end of the year,” Simmons said. “I know their record was ugly … They finished 4-2 and started 0-6. Among that 0-6 there were some really weird close losses. He recruits well. The one time we’ve seen him before when he took a winless team to whatever it was — four wins — and then to undefeated in year two, I don’t think there’s any reason to think he can’t take a jump in year two at Nebraska. I just think if you’re actually looking at it from a big-picture standpoint and not just a record from last year, I think there’s a lot to like about having Scott Frost as the guy who runs your program and a guy you entrust with the future of your program. I’d feel good. Whatever the Nebraska win total is this year, I’d be on the over I’d imagine.”Guys like Patterson and Dantonio have definitely accomplished more in their careers overall, but Frost likely has the higher upside, and Simmons may be right that he would be the bigger commodity on the open market, even following a four-win year in Lincoln.Whether that means he is a top 10 coach right now is up for debate, but with a great year, I wouldn’t be surprised if he flirts with it entering 2020.[247Sports] LINCOLN, NE – NOVEMBER 17: Head coach Scott Frost of the Nebraska Cornhuskers celebrates the win against the Michigan State Spartans at Memorial Stadium on November 17, 2018 in Lincoln, Nebraska. (Photo by Steven Branscombe/Getty Images)It took two years for Scott Frost to take UCF from a winless program to an undefeated season and a New Year’s Six bowl win. If he has a similar turnaround at Nebraska in year two, it will be hard to deny that he is one of the best coaches in the sport. But is he top 10 already? One prominent college football analyst thinks so.CBS Sports recently released its rankings of the head coaches in college football. Frost comes in at No. 25 in the full rankings. With Nebraska going 4-8 in Frost’s first season, it’s not a surprise to see his standing take a slight hit, but we’re all still pretty high on him. Nobody thought he’d step in at Nebraska and the Huskers would suddenly be winning 10 or 11 games. That is actually down four spots from where Frost was last season at this time. CBS had him at No. 21 entering his first year at his alma mater.
In this scenario it would have Notre Dame missing out on the Playoff. (Photo by Mike Stobe/Getty Images)The 2019 college football season is underway, and that means it’s time to look at early predictions for the College Football Playoff. Familiar faces should find themselves in the hunt for the national championship. Most predictions have Alabama and Clemson facing off for the national title this upcoming season. With Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence poised for big seasons, it’s very possible they lead their teams to the Playoff.ESPN analyst Mark Schlabach is also on board with the idea that Alabama and Clemson are back in the postseason. He released his full predictions for the season in his latest work, which features win-loss predictions for every major program.Schlabach has Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Oklahoma making the Playoff. The reason he has the Sooners getting back to the postseason is because of Jalen Hurts. Losing Kyler Murray would be a huge loss for most teams, but the program is fortunate to have the former Alabama star replace him.

Taylor (37*), Nicholls (30*), Bhuvneshwar (2/25) (SCORECARD) India’s first match without Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni in the one-day international team in four years turned out to be a disastrous one as they lost to New Zealand by 8 wickets in the inconsequential fourth ODI in Hamilton on Thursday.Trent Boult was the star of the show for the hosts as he picked up his 5th ODI five-wicket haul to bowl out India for 92, their lowest total in New Zealand in the format. India suffered their heaviest defeat while defending a total as the the hosts won with 212 balls to spare. The Kiwis in reply, lost the wickets of Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson inside 7 overs but Henry Nicholls and Ross Taylor ensured that no more wickets fell as they raced to victory in the 15th over. The win helped New Zealand register its first win in the five-match series which India lead 3-1.Nicholls remained unbeaten on 30 while Taylor scored 37 with Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagging two wickets for India.Earlier, India were shot out for their seventh lowest total in ODIs as Boult ran through the batting lineup with figures of 5 for 21.Notably, Kohli was not playing for India in the fourth ODI as the India captain was rested for the remainder of the New Zealand tour, including the T20I series, after the third ODI.Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni also missed the match as he failed to recover from the hamstring injury that kept him out of the third ODI as well. He got the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya.De Grandhomme also managed to trouble the Indian batsmen by getting the ball to move in the air. The medium pacer broke India’s middle-order by removing Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu for 0. He also castled Bhuvneshwar Kumar to make sure the tail didn’t wag.Wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal then fought hard and stitched a 25-run partnership for the ninth wicket which ensured that India didn’t get bowled out for its lowest score in ODIs against New Zealand, which is 88.Stand-in captain Rohit certainly didn’t have a memorable time in what is also his 200th ODI. After losing the toss, he had said that India wanted to bat anyway in order to try and analyse a few things in the lead up to the World Cup.Not many expected the scorecard but India’s familiar batting woes failure to adapt to swing and seam were exposed by the New Zealand pacers who were relentlessly attacking the wickets. For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. How to Make a Rum Old Fashioned Editors’ Recommendations The Best Netflix Food Documentaries to Savor Right Now Are Fermented Pizzas a Trend to Watch? We Asked a Pro to Find Out With our fast, busy lives we often find ourselves on the go without enough time to eat. For those of us who are into working out, we need something that gives us the nutrients we need, not extra-added stuff like sugar. Taylor Collins and Katie Forrest, two outdoor enthusiasts who hail from Austin, Texas, discovered they needed to create just the right snack to give them the nutrients they needed while biking, hiking and train running, and they came up with something so Epic, that they named it Epic Bar. Unlike all those other sweet, sugary nutrition bars on the market, Epic Bar takes animal protein — bison, beef, lamb and turkey — and fuses them with ingredients like berries and nuts, making for a quick bite that is rich in protein, vitamins, nutrients and omega-3s, plus is low glycemic, gluten free and paleo-friendly. It’s better than jerky, and the tiny touch of flavors that enhances the meat. The Manual spoke to Collins about how they came up with Epic Bar, why they decided to put the animals on the packaging and the best time to eat one.How did you come up with the idea for Epic Bar?Katie and I are long time endurance athletes. When we are not working, we are often found deep in the Texas Hill Country riding bikes, trail running, or hiking. It was always at these times when our bodies craved something savory, nutrient dense, and in a whole food form. We could only consume so many plant-based bars before our bodies started rejecting such high carb/sugar intake. So, we started packing bacon during our long endurance events and it was game changing! As a result, Katie and I set out to create a more portable and convenient way to snack on high quality animal protein on the go!How did you concoct the different flavors? We formulated the flavors with a trial and error method. Initially we made hundreds of versions of the EPIC bars. We dialed in the flavors to the current lineup by only keeping the ingredients that worked and getting rid of the ones that didn’t. We personally tested each concept during a trail run, daylong bike ride, or camping trip. The flavors that we enjoyed most and the ingredients that made our bodies feel the best evolved into EPIC bars. When did you decide to turn it into a business? We decided to turn EPIC into a business as soon as we dialed in a shelf stable version of the bar. We saw an amazing market opportunity to create a healthy snack and we went hard and fast to getting the bars on the shelf. We were even more motivated to create a business out of this product once we began to see that we could make a significant impact on re-educating consumers about the health benefits of grass fed meat. We have always been excited to help grow the market for high quality humanely treated animal protein and reward ranchers for raising animals the right way.Are either of you on a paleo and/or gluten-free diet?Everyone within the company eats grain-free and gluten free. Most of us stick to a paleo inspired diet. For everyone here we focus on eating whole foods more than anything else! Why did you decide to put a photo of the actual animal on the packaging? We wanted consumers to connect with where their food comes from. If you are comfortable eating animal protein, we believe you should be comfortable seeing an image of the animal you are consuming. It’s a way to pay respect to the actual animals that we eat. No other food companies do this, and that is sad to us. We selected beautiful images of our animals that would stand out on the shelf and also in people’s minds. What’s the best time for an Epic Bar?EPIC bars are good anytime… duh! Long lasting satiety comes easily with Epic’s nutrient-dense protein content and the absence of grains. This makes EPIC a great option for on-the-go healthy snacking. Additionally, EPIC bars are loaded with anti-inflammatory omega-3’s, muscle-building CLAs, and antioxidant-rich vitamins A and E, thus also making EPIC a perfect fuel for athletes or post training recovery. For more information, visit Epicbar.com. Swill is our bi-monthly column dedicated to liquor, wine, beer, and every other delicious dram that falls under the broader umbrella of booze. Nine times out of ten, the added flavor is just a way to mask the taste of a young, low-quality spirit, and the resulting whiskey is awful. But every so often I’ll encounter a bottle that makes me reconsider my stance, and McMenamin’s Aval Pota is one of those whiskies. If you’re not familiar with McMenamins, allow me to give you the scoop. It’s essentially a chain of breweries, brewpubs, hotels, theaters, and concert venues that are scattered across the northwest. They make their own signature line of craft beer and wine, they have live music events just about every night, and in recent years, they’ve begun distilling their own hooch.Aval Pota is their latest concoction. Unlike many flavored whiskeys, which start with a sub-par spirit and try to gussie it up with artificial flavorings, this one starts from a base of Edgefield Distillery’s White Dog Whiskey. On top of this solid foundation, pressed Hood River apples, organic brown sugar, and cinnamon are added. The result is a fruity, fragrant apple whiskey that is absolutely perfect for fall.At a relatively light 33 percent ABV, Aval Pota (named for the Welsh and Old Irish words for “apple” and “pot still,” respectively) is, in my opinion, best taken neat or on the rocks– but also makes a fantastic mixer for all manner of fall cocktails. Upstate Stock What Wrangler Is Doing to Make Denim More Sustainable A Peek Inside the Joseph Abboud Factory: Italian Fabric, Made in America Over the past year we’ve been warming up to Upstate Stock, a small New York-based company that specializes in locally handmade gloves and hats. With the release of its new genuine deerskin gloves with ultra-soft poly liners, it’s now one of our favorite winter accessory brands to reach for. Made from traditionally resilient ragg wool that is washed and dried before being worked on, the gloves (and beanies) are as perfectly constructed and they are handsome. Other fine details easily missed include hand-tacked labels and ethically harvested deerskin attached by antique Singer post sewing machines.“There was a definite hole in the knit accessories market,” explains founder-menswear brand manager veteran Bram Robinson on the idea of a premium quality knits lifestyle brand. But, as Robinson suggests, it was the added goal of preserving the tradition of American craftsmanship that made a simple pair of knit gloves that much more. (Robinson’s gloves, for example, are made by a family-owned factory that has been knitting accessories since 1946 for the likes of the military and the NYPD.)Now in response to demand for other product categories, Upstate Stock has added Kings of Brooklyn in Greenpoint for candles and several grooming products to its small but growing collective of partner-makers. Canadian-made leather belts and cotton flannels are also underway. Says Robinson, “the brand will always be 90% gloves and hats, but we plan on more as we find good partners in and out of New York.” We can hardly wait.
When Jon Koller first started growing through puberty, he realized he hated shaving so much, that he would rather grow a beard than shave regularly. He grew one beard after another, and people would tell him countless times to shave it off, but he didn’t care and kept on growing out his whiskers. According to their website, “Then one day in 2009, somebody said, ‘either cut it off or put something on it.’ But what could that magical ‘something’ be? After years of development, Beard Balm, our namesake product was born.” Koller started cooking up cans of beard balm out of a pot in his kitchen in Detroit, making 50 lbs. of the goo at a time, and sold Beard Balm at holiday markets, before long, business started booming, and he moved the operation to Ponyride in Detroit. Now on a busy day, Koller, who is also an engineer, makes up to 200,000 cans of Beard Balm, which is made of grape seed oil, coconut oil, lanolin, beeswax, lemon oil, eucalyptus oil, and geranium oil. Locally made in Detroit, Beard Balm comes in a number of different varieties, like the original, which has a clean scent, unscented for the sensitive folks who prefer no extra scent and more. “It lasts forever, and it makes you have an awesome beard,” said Koller when we recently paid Beard Balm a visit at its production headquarters in Detroit. “It’s a conditioner for really coarse hair, it’s also good on your cuticles.”We scored a few cans of Beard Balm and it has certainly won over the beard-wearing friends who have it. Plus, who doesn’t feel good about using a product locally made by a small business in Detroit? For more information, visit beardbalm.us.
