Indian-origin Man Faces 20 years in U.S. Prison For Stabbing His Wife 40 Times

first_imgThe United States Superior Court sentenced an Indian-origin man to 20 years in prison for killing his wife by stabbing her nearly 40 times. The killing was said to have happened after she confessed to him that she was having an affair.Nitin P Singh should serve 85 per cent of the sentence on the single charge of first degree aggravated manslaughter before he is eligible for parole, according to the sentence handed down by Superior Court Judge Linda Lawhun of Salem County, New Jersey on Oct. 6.The murder of 42-year-old Seema Singh took place in the couple’s apartment at 144 North Broadway in Pennsville in July 2016, while their three children slept nearby, reported, quoting authorities on the matter. The children were unhurt.Singh submitted to the court saying he attacked his wife, a Collingswood shopkeeper, after she said she was leaving him for another man and taking their money and children with her. In a fit of rage, Singh said to the court, he picked up the knife and began stabbing her. He was later charged with murdering his wife by stabbing her nearly 40 times.He then called 911. On the tape of that call obtained by NJ Advance Media, Singh told operators that his wife was not breathing.According to court documents, Singh was charged with two counts of first-degree murder (one count for purposely causing death and the other for knowingly causing death); one count of second-degree aggravated assault; one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.Singh had pleaded guilty and it was accepted by Superior Court judge.
